Questions I can't believe I still have to answer....

Because Mel’s Mini‑Mansion of Mild Disappointment didn’t exactly scream “prestige,” “luxury” or even “basic structural confidence.” We slapped "mansion" on it the way people slap “gourmet” on a gas station hot dog and hope no one looks too closely. It’s aspirational branding. It’s delusion with curb appeal. It is so small it spiritually identifies as a panic room.

Also, calling it Mel’s Mansion distracts from the fact that we’re already lying to ourselves about everything else in life, like our work / life balance and the idea that “this year will be different.”  But hey, it sounds cool, and that’s what matters in this economy of lies.

Plus, if we called it what it truly is, Mel’s Micro‑Estate of Manageable Mediocrity, you would show up, take one look and immediately assume you were at the wrong house, the wrong event or possibly the wrong timeline.

So “mansion” stays. It’s not accurate, but neither are most people’s Tinder profiles.

Your phone has GPS. It knows the way better than you do. If you enjoy arriving before the food is cold, aim for Interstate 84 (exit 11), not the Merritt or I‑95. Unless you’re craving gridlock and regret. And please, for the love of barbecue, leave early enough that “traffic” isn’t your excuse. Common sense is free. Try using it sometime.

No. Do not bring anything. Food and some drinks are already handled by people who know what they’re doing. If you have some bizarre, highly specific drink you can’t function without, fine, bring that. Otherwise, keep your experimental casseroles at home.

Yes. Giant Jenga, giant Sorry!, and cornhole. The backyard tantrum generator. It’s on the other side of the fence so the rest of us don’t have to witness whatever unhinged gremlin energy erupts the moment someone misses a toss.

Yes. Ian Biggs is rolling in with a full band. Drums, electric guitar, bass, keys, saxophone. We are aiming for "Did someone file a noise complaint yet?" level.

If you bring a baby, bring ear protection unless you want their first phrase to be “What?”

It’s a backyard BBQ, not a royal coronation. Wear whatever your body can tolerate without filing a complaint. Comfortable shoes are advised unless you’re actively trying to sprain an ankle on the grass like it’s a competitive sport.

Please call the caterer at (248) 434-5508.
